Travel

Two major airports serve the northern Bay Area:  OAK (Oakland) and SFO (San Francisco). BART, the Bay Area Rapid Transit train system, is a quick, convenient, inexpensive way to get to the conference hotel. The Downtown Berkeley BART station is just across the Hotel Shattuck Plaza.

Taking BART to the Hotel Shattuck Plaza.

The Hotel Shattuck Plaza is <50m from the Downtown Berkeley BART station. To get there from either airport, catch a BART train bound for Richmond. The BART website has an online trip planner that creates your itinerary, as well as rider’s guides for SFO and for OAK.

BART serves both SFO and OAK, and detailed directions can be found here:

http://www.bart.gov/guide/airport

The cost from SFO is $9.25 one way, while the cost from OAK is $8.50 one way. There are easy instructions inside both airports for getting to the appropriate airport BART station. BART ticket machines in the stations accept cash (up to $20 bills) and give change, and also accept credit cards. Coming from either airport, you should get off at the Downtown Berkeley Station. In all cases you will have to change trains, but doing so is easy. The system is well marked, and you will only need to step across the platform.

Shuttle Service

A door-to-door shuttle is another popular option to and from SFO or OAK. (When interpreting shuttle-bus maps and tables, keep in mind that Oakland is in Alameda County, part of the "East Bay" region.) BayPorter and SuperShuttle are among the popular choices, and cost ~$35 (plus tip) one way.

Taxicab

The trip between OAK and the hotel is about $20 each way, not including gratuity. A taxi ride from SFO in an unshared cab approaches $100 each way.

Driving to the Hotel Shattuck Plaza

The hotel's website has driving directions and a map.  The Hotel Shattuck Plaza address is 2806 Allston Way, in downtown Berkeley. The hotel does not offer parking, but there is a public parking garage across the street that charges ~$35 per day (self), and there are other paid parking lots in the neighborhood. What little onstreet parking is available in this downtown area is metered, with a 2 hour time limit.
